STADTRADELN – Radeln für ein gutes Klima

HeiGIT’s Climate Action Navigator highlights why bikeability matters for climate and quality of life

In line with this, HeiGIT has released the Climate Action Navigator (CAN), a dashboard that supports cities, NGOs, and citizen initiatives in identifying areas for action in the fields of climate protection and quality of life, based on data-driven insights. A particular focus is places on promoting sustainable mobility, assessed through various indicators.

To support this, hiBike, a co-developed assessment tool, is used to evaluate the bikeabilty of streets. It analyzes various aspects of urban infrastructure such as surface, path categories, dooring risk and smoothness. The results provide insights on how safe and comfortable it is to cycle in a specific part of a city. The CAN’s assessment tools are designed to help stakeholders such as NGOs, city administrations, citizens’ initiatives to identify strengths as well as gaps of climate mitigation in different areas.

By developing tools like the Climate Action Navigator, HeiGIT aims to make a contribution to more sustainable, livable and green urban environments.

Any user can explore how bike-friendly a particular city or district is with the Climate Action Navigator: Climate Action
