Call for participation: “Walking the X-min City: Methods and implementations to assess walkability and pedestrian accessibility” Workshop at the AGILE Conference

Join our collaborative workshop at the AGILE Conference in Dresden on June 10, where researchers, practitioners, and policymakers come together to explore methods in walkability and pedestrian accessibility assessment.

Workshop scope

The assessment of walkability and pedestrian accessibility through GIS methods has gained momentum, offering urban planners and policymakers new ways to assess and implement the X-minute city. This workshop invites participants to present their own work, collaboratively evaluate the state of research, and identify challenges and opportunities, with the goal of producing a joint research paper.

The session begins with presentations of selected work, focusing on implementations such as NetAScore, CTwalk, and CTstreets, followed by contributions from participants. Attendees wishing to present are encouraged to submit an abstract prior to the workshop.

Participants will then join smaller working groups to explore key topics: (1) providing a conceptual overview of existing methods, (2) assessing which aspects of walkability and pedestrian accessibility are well addressed or underrepresented, and (3) identifying challenges and promising directions for research and implementation.

Workshop format

This is a full-day workshop that will be structured as follows:

9:30: Kick-off and introduction to the workshop

9:40: Presentation of existing methods and implementations

10:15: Coffee break

10:30: Presentations and discussions

12:30: Lunch

14:00: Working groups

15:30: Presentation of the results and discussion

16:00: Final round table and next steps for the joint publication

Ways to participate

(1) Just join! If you are interested to join this workshop (with or without your own presentation) we invite you to register for the workshop using the conference registration system until 15 April 2025 (early-bird registration).

(2) Present your own research during the workshop: We welcome your abstract submission covering but not limited to the following topics:

● Current approaches to capturing factors impacting walkability and pedestrian accessibility

● Methods and implementations for assessing walkability and pedestrian accessibility: State-of-the-Art

● Challenges, opportunities, and next-generation methods and implementations

Submission format: Maximum 500 words abstract (any format, may include figures and tables). Submission as a single PDF file by email to Eva Nuhn (eva.nuhn@uni-a.de).

Submission deadline: 31 March 2025

Notification of acceptance: 10 April 2025

Accepted abstracts will have the opportunity to be presented at the workshop.
