You are a highly motivated person who loves spatial data science? You want to use your expertise for the benefit of society and the environment – in particular stimulating Climate Action? You want to improve the availability and quality of geographic information for Climate Action and develop geoinformatics methods used for related open, non-profit applications? HeiGIT gGmbH is a non-profit start-up aiming at technology transfer and applied research in the area of geoinformatics for the benefit of society and the environment. We work towards closing the gap between knowledge about climate change and action towards mitigating it. To this end, HeiGIT is establishing a new dedicated focus area on Climate Action.
To work with us on our ambitious new projects in this field, we are looking for a motivated community engagement, outreach & partnership manager to help citizens make informed decisions about fitting Climate Actions.

You will be working on the interface between communities and scientists to enable citizens & decision makers to identify and take actions related to the Climate Crisis.

Your tasks are related to

  • Engage citizens, local communities, and organizations for the co-production of local sustainability indicators (e.g. related to the 15-minute city or greenhouse gas emission maps) and related apps
  • Interact with end users throughout the project to include them in the process of co-developing local sustainability indicators and greenhouse gas emission maps
  • Product Management: drive the vision and define strategies of the new Climate Action team at HeiGIT
  • Coordinate among work packages, team members, and stakeholders
  • Organise regular user engagement workshops
  • Collect, assess and communicate user requirements
  • Establish and grow stakeholder networks and partnerships with organizations and individuals from governmental sector, private sector and civil society
  • Increase the level of awareness for and the use of the project results and apps.
  • Communicate project results to a scientific and public audience in written and oral form

Your Expertise

  • Above-average university degree in subjects such as Geography, Environmental Sciences or similar.
  • Proven background in geography or environmental research (by a PhD, publications, projects, or similar)
  • Very good networking skills; established network with relevant institutions and NGOs in the Climate Action Sector required
  • Interest in working at the interface between science and practical requirements with implementations for different user groups (e.g. requirements of environmental organizations, government agencies, citizens etc.).
  • Excellent proven communication skills, oral and written
  • German language skills strongly preferred, but English only possible.

HeiGIT gGmbH is cooperating closely with the GIScience Research Group at Heidelberg University, which is member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) and funding member the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE) at Heidelberg University. We offer a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment with many personal development opportunities. All HeiGIT employees can, in agreement with the rest of the team, work mobile up to half of their time. HeiGIT receives core funding by the Klaus Tschira Foundation (KTS).
